Where is the lighthouse and why is there a lab in it?

Ahoy maties! We’re super physched to share that Absurd Snacks was chosen to take part in a nationally ranked accelerator called Lighthouse Labs! And yes, this blog post title might have been misleading, but it sure did land you here! So let’s dive in.

The Lighthouse Labs accelerator consists of 11 weeks of intense programming around what it takes to scale your brand, including business development, first hires, fundraising, and strategic marketing! And better yet - Lighthouse Labs is headquartered right here in Richmond, Virginia! One of the biggest reasons that Lighthouse Labs has become nationally recognized is their commitment to community building and providing founders access to strategic mentors in any industry. We are paired with an CPG executive who lead business development and marketing for one of the most well-known and beloved grocery stores in Richmond. It couldn’t be more of a perfect fit!

We are in week four of the program already, and some things to note include an awesome kickoff event at Padel Plant, and indoor padel ball club. No, we didn’t mean to write pickleball. Padel originates from Mexico and it is played on an enclosed court with glass walls, while pickleball is played on a smaller court with a net in the middle. Padel uses solid paddles and a depressurized ball, while pickleball uses paddles and a perforated plastic ball. AKA you can hit a padel ball really hard and it won’t go soaring, perfect for taking some anger out! Stay tuned for updates from us and Padel Plant - a partnership is in the works!

Back to Lighthouse labs, you can check out the list of companies selected here. Out of over 100 applicants, eight companies were chosen to go through the accelerator. At the end of the program, all companies will pitch in a shark-tank style event for investment (if they are raising money) and brand awareness!
