2025's Biggest Health Food Trend: Beans

It seems like every year, a new ingredient takes the spotlight as the quintessential healthy food. All it takes is a coveted foodie influencer or trusted news source shouting out the dietary benefits and versatility, and the whole community decides that it’s a new pantry staple.

Well, 2025 is well underway now, and we think we’ve found our culprit: BEANS. That’s right! It’s nothing unheard of, no new discoveries or wild new food science breakthroughs. Beans have literally been eaten by humans for thousands and thousands of years. When we look around the globe at some of the healthiest and longest living communities, beans seem to frequently be a mainstay in their diets. Who knows, they could be onto something… Lucky for us, Absurd Snacks clearly got this memo on the early side, because we’ve been using beans to fuel our snacks from day one! Check out this sign from a 2022 farmer’s market with our OG slogan, “Beans aren’t boring”, LOL!

Check this out… even these national publications have shouted out just how awesome these little powerhouses are:

“Sorry, Kale. Beans Are the New Nutrition Obsession.” - Wall Street Journal

“One Food to Change the World” - The Atlantic

blue zone diets include healthy superfoods including beans, peas, and lentils

“More Beans, Less Red Meat: New Report Proposes Changing American Dietary Guidelines” - Wall Street Journal

Dietary Guidelines: Red Meat, Ultraprocessed Foods, and Plant-Based Protein Recommendations such as beans, peas, and lentils

So - what is it about beans that people are raving over? For starters, beans are packed with protein and fiber, two of the most sought after nutrients that are hard to come by, especially with such convenience. They’re also low in fat and can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Beans can help improve our gut health and decrease chances of heart complications, cancer, and more. For a food that tastes delicious, nourishes your body, and makes you feel great too, it seems like a WIN-WIN-WIN!

While we love to throw black beans in our tacos, use chickpea hummus as a dipper, and have white beans in our chili, there are so many other ways to enjoy these healthful morsels. Namely, snacking! Now, we’re not the only ones using beans in snacks anymore.

Bada Bean Bada Boom makes yummy roasted broad beans that come in a myriad of flavors like sweet sriracha and garlic and onion.

The Good Bean makes delicious chips and roasted chickpea snacks!

The Only Bean has absolutely taken over the internet with their high protein edamame snacks. SO DELICIOUS.

But, of course, we’d be remiss not to mention our very own Nut-Free Snack Mixes. They feature two delicious and nutrient-dense bean varieties: chickpeas and fava beans (a.k.a. broad beans). They’re crunchy and roasted to perfection, and combined with flavor-packed granola clusters and soft, dried fruit. Try them in Rosemary Sea Salt; try them in Maple Cinnamon. Either way, you’re getting 7g of protein and 5g of fiber per serving. Ridiculously delicious, absurdly satisfying.

Go get your fill of beans, and as always… snack absurdly!
