The Power of a Power Nap

There is a specific time of day when everything begins to feel harder. Your eyes feel strained after looking at a computer screen all day and your thoughts become unclear. Maybe you even consider another cup of coffee. Sound familiar? This is called the afternoon slump.

No matter what your day looks like, whether it be sitting in meetings, going to class or lifeguarding at your local pool, there often comes a time in the afternoon when it feels like bedtime cannot come soon enough. While it can be tempting to try and push through with an Alani Nu for extra caffeine, that is not the only solution. A power nap might be just what you need.

Steps to a successful power nap:

time it just right...

The best part about a power nap is that it does not take up half of your afternoon. Just a 10-20 minute nap is all you need! Now you might be thinking to yourself, “that is not enough time!”. However, if you nap for 30 minutes or longer, you risk falling into deep sleep. And when that happens, you wake up groggy and oftentimes feeling worse than before! A short 10-20 minute nap with a good sleep mask, can help you feel refreshed and will not disrupt your sleep later that night.

have a snack ready!

While a power nap can help you to feel rested, that is only half of the equation. Your body needs fuel as well. It is important to choose a snack that is packed with protein and rich in fiber. This combo will help to stabilize your blood sugar and replenish your energy so that you can have a successful end of your day.

Roasted chickpeas are a great option to reach for because they are complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs provide you with steady and sustained energy. Absurd Snacks are the PERFECT snack to grab after your power nap! They are made with roasted chickpeas and  plant-based protein and fiber that will leave you feeling satisfied.

Avoid that extra caffeine and remind yourself: sometimes all you need is a snack and a nap!
